Bruges and the vicinity

Close to Bruges

If you are visiting Bruges, try to spend as much time there as possible. But there are some coastal cities that are worth spending a day or two.

Knokke

Just outside the budget hotels in Brugge ( about 20 min drive ) there is the excentric city of Knokke. There are ample hotels in Knokke awaiting your arrival. The hotels in Knokke are the most expensive hotels of the entire coast but you are staying of course in the Saint-Tropez of Belgium. And worse is even that most hotels in Knokke are even quite old and not that updated although a certain change is on the way. During the summer there a lot of things to do in the city and normally there is a special happening every week so you will certainly not get bored.

Oostende en De Panne

Ostend is a little bit further away from Bruges than Knokke and is a real city. The only true city by the sea. You will find nightlife and regular city activity throughout the year and not only during certain periods like in other coastal towns. There are numerous hotels in Oostende, and they are the least expensive of the coast. Find your hotel Oostende easily online as most of them offer special prices on the net. Most hotels in Oostende do not offer half-board so you’ll gonna have to be looking for a fine restaurant every night.

De Panne is a less known city on the caost but is most charming, that is why i am mentioning this here. Most hotels de Panne are very small and offer no more than 20 rooms which provides a very cosy atmosphere. Book your hotel in de Panne quite in advance or you’ll gonna have to find another ciy to stay in. As this is one of the last regions of the coast which is being explored by building contracters, a lot of its charm is going to be lost in the upcoming years. Many hotels in de Panne aswell are being sold to those contracters to replace them by expensive apartments.

We have selected a few of the hotels where you should definitely stay during your citytrip in Bruges. They offer the best accomodation in Bruges at the best rates. Have fun when you are over there.

Bruges is a beautiful city which is actually quite close to the coast. Cities like Ostend and Knokke-Heist or Blankenberge are easily visited from Bruges. If you are more interested in other medieval cities you can find your way to Brussels or Antwerp or maybe Ghent, but i wouldn’t recommend it except for the most beautiful mediaval fort in the middle of the city , Het Gravensteen.
